Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has increased by 12.5% compared to the same period last year, reaching 68,647. Meanwhile, the number of UAV pilots has risen by 6.6%, totaling 1,536,993.
In a written statement regarding the UAV and pilot statistics in Turkey, Uraloğlu emphasized the impact of recent education and initiatives by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM), which have contributed to this growth in licensed UAV operators.
5,000 to 8,000 New UAVs Registered Annually
Uraloğlu noted that the SHGM has established a special registration system for these vehicles, facilitating the permissions, flights, and registrations significantly. He revealed that between 5,000 and 8,000 new vehicles are registered each year. UAVs are increasingly utilized across various sectors, including agricultural spraying, photography, cinema, mapping, traffic monitoring, security, delivery, and healthcare.
The Minister pointed out that through the UAV Tracking and Traffic Management System Project, their goal is to ensure the seamless integration of these vehicles into the existing airspace using an accessible, affordable, efficient, safe, environmentally-friendly, and digital approach. This project aims to eliminate safety and security issues posed by UAVs, allowing all UAV operations in the country to be safely and securely managed by the SHGM without requiring any additional hardware on the vehicles.
