The Samsun Technical Aircraft Maintenance and Repair Center, established by Samsun University in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Technology’s Middle Black Sea Development Agency (OKA), provides training for aircraft maintenance technicians, as well as CNC and welding operators.

With the aim of meeting national and international demand for skilled personnel, 10 students enrolled last year and 6 more are currently training, set to graduate in July after 2,400 hours of education.

Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Aydın highlighted that the center was established with financial support exceeding 10 million Turkish Liras provided by the Ministry in 2022. He emphasized the importance of this center in advancing the aviation sector.

Aydın stated, “When our university was founded in 2018, we envisioned creating an aviation campus. Thus, we increased the technical capabilities of our flight school and also aimed to train additional aircraft technicians in cooperation with the private sector.”

The training includes all necessary equipment for technician training on turbine aircraft. Currently, 16 students are undergoing a technician training program expected to lead to B1 and B2 certifications, opening employment opportunities both locally and globally in a high-demand field.

Aydın noted that students enroll in a fee-based program, with costs currently subsidized at 50% for the existing students. He anticipates that the first graduates will emerge in 2025.

Middle Black Sea Development Agency Secretary General Mehlika Dicle praised the project, indicating it supports crucial sectors for Samsun's economy. The initiative is seen as a step towards a flourishing aviation industry in the region.

Students expressed their enthusiasm for careers in aviation, with student Zehra Atan highlighting the importance and inclusivity of women in this field.
